Theodore creates self-portraits without ever turning the camera upon herself. Instead her work uses her studio as the subject matter to create the archetypal artist's self-portrait. She focuses on tiny details of views found in her studio, things she looks at every day as she engages in the creative process, things very personal to her life and her work. So we get Melancholy - a view of the corner of the window looking out of her studio towards the tree-lined Victorian terrace beyond. Whilst looking in such detail at her own environment she is also inviting us to reflect upon ourselves. 27 May 2006 By Beverley Knowles, Art Gallery Owner Financial Mail Women Forum
